Reverse Climate Science Cuts at NOAA: Protect Our Economy and Communities

257 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

am writing to urge you to use your influence to restore full federal funding for NOAA's climate science programs and reverse the Trump administration's systematic dismantling of our nation's capacity to understand and respond to climate change. The recent decision to withdraw NOAA's support from the Arctic Report Card exemplifies a troubling pattern. For two decades, this report has provided essential analysis of rapid Arctic warming and its implications for ecosystems, trade routes, and national security. By cutting coordination while continuing data collection, the administration has created a false dichotomy: raw data without interpretation serves no one. Scientists and policymakers need analysis to understand what the numbers mean. Yet the Arctic Report Card is just one casualty in a broader assault on climate science. The administration has stopped updating federal databases that track the costs of hurricanes, floods, and other billion-dollar disasters—data critical for understanding climate impacts on our economy. It eliminated the first-of-its-kind assessment of U.S. nature health, removing our ability to comprehensively measure ecosystem degradation. It dismissed hundreds of scientists from the National Climate Assessment, gutting our government's flagship report on climate effects. And it appointed a climate science skeptic to lead the agency responsible for compiling that report. These actions don't represent budget efficiency—they represent a calculated effort to suppress information the American people need to make informed decisions about their future. Our federal agencies should be strengthened, not weakened, in their capacity to conduct rigorous science and communicate findings transparently. NOAA is a vital institution. It provides data that protects lives and property through weather prediction, supports safe navigation, enables economic planning, and informs national security strategy. Climate science isn't a partisan issue—it's infrastructure. I ask you to: Advocate for full restoration of NOAA's climate science funding Push to reinstate the Arctic Report Card coordination Support the rehiring of dismissed climate scientists Demand restoration of disaster-cost tracking databases Call for an impartial leader of climate assessment programs Without reliable federal climate data and analysis, American companies operate with incomplete information, making poor investments and exposing shareholders to unnecessary risk. Our agricultural sector, insurance industry, financial markets, and coastal businesses all depend on the kind of rigorous, transparent science that NOAA provides. The administration's actions harm not just environmental stewardship—they undermine American economic competitiveness and business confidence. I urge you to defend American economic and strategic interests by restoring American scientific capability.
