An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Vote No on the BBB

28 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

Ever the dutiful soldier, Stephen Miller neatly connected ICE and the Big, Beautiful Bill in a single social media post last night. He wants to make it look like everyone knows this government has every American’s best interest at heart. We aren’t fooled. This is the MAGA regime’s attempt to replace the American government we’ve had since the 1930s with one that reflects the antidemocratic values of Project 2025. The measure is unpopular. 60% of Americans think the bill will help wealthy people, 54% believe it will hurt poor people. Forty-seven percent think it will hurt the middle class, while only 31% believe it will help the middle class. Most Americans think this is wildly dangerous and understand the implications of such a bill on their government and their lives. The CBO estimates that if the measure passes, as many as 13.7 million Americans will lose healthcare coverage, and cuts of nearly $300 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will mean cuts of about 30% to the programs on which millions of Americans depend. Is this what’s best for America? Republicans know all this, and we know that they know. Contrary to what the Republicans want or support, most Americans do not want a tax break for the wealthy that would increase the debt by $3 trillion. Most middle-class Americans don’t want to watch the rich get richer while they work and struggle to maintain the status quo. The CBO estimates that if the measure passes, as many as 13.7 million Americans will lose healthcare coverage, and cuts of nearly $300 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will mean cuts of about 30% to the programs on which millions depend. How is this good government? The peaceful demonstrations in L.A. are just what Trump wants for many reasons, not the least of which is theater and distraction. He can take the focus off the bill and quietly get it passed when people focus more on the circus he is manufacturing in L.A. The Republican Party once again abdicates its responsibilities and sits back quietly while the President wreaks havoc in the country. Their lack of action is shameful, and their constituents are watching.
