An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Oppose Administration's Unconstitutional Immigration Enforcement Tactics

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action against the administration's immigration enforcement operations that are violating the constitutional rights of American citizens and residents. These actions represent a dangerous departure from the rule of law that demands congressional intervention. A secret ICE memo dated May 12, 2025, signed by acting director Todd Lyons, authorizes agents to enter homes without judicial warrants. This directly violates the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. Senator Richard Blumenthal has warned that every American should be terrified by this policy allowing agents to kick down doors and storm into homes without court authorization. The administration is also weaponizing domestic terrorism designations to silence protected speech. Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk had her visa revoked and was detained for six weeks solely for co-authoring an op-ed calling for a Gaza ceasefire. In Maine, an ICE agent photographed a legal observer's car and told her she was now in a database and considered a domestic terrorist simply for observing their actions. Secretary Kristi Noem falsely claimed protester Renee Good, who was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross, committed an act of domestic terrorism. As Rachel Levinson-Waldman of the Brennan Center explains, actual domestic terrorism has a specific legal definition requiring one of 51 federal crimes involving weapons of mass destruction, not protected speech or protest. Additionally, the administration is depriving people of due process by rendering immigrants to foreign countries without legal proceedings, violating the Fourteenth Amendment's guarantee that no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. I urge you to introduce or co-sponsor legislation that explicitly prohibits warrantless home entries by immigration enforcement, protects legal observers and protesters from retaliation, and ensures due process rights for all people in immigration proceedings. Please also support congressional investigations into these constitutional violations and hold administration officials accountable.
