Demand Immediate Investigation Into ICE Killing of Alex Pretti

I am writing to demand immediate action following the ICE killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday morning. The circumstances surrounding this shooting reveal a disturbing pattern of official deception that threatens public trust and civic order.
Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino held a press conference claiming agents were conducting a targeted operation when an "individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun." The official statement said Pretti "violently resisted" disarmament attempts and an agent fired "defensive shots" fearing for his life. However, video evidence that emerged just before the press conference directly contradicts this narrative. The footage shows agents approaching and confronting Pretti, not the other way around as officials claimed.
This leaves two equally troubling possibilities. Either Bovino and his team knew about the video showing Pretti was less the aggressor than depicted and chose to smear him anyway, or they didn't know about the video but should have anticipated its existence and proceeded with their false narrative regardless. In the best case, truth was simply irrelevant to these officials. In the worst case, they deliberately lied and smeared Pretti as a "domestic terrorist."
Minneapolis and our nation are approaching a breaking point. We cannot maintain civic order if government agents kill people in our streets and then immediately issue false statements to justify those killings. Americans do not want to see their neighbors killed by federal agents operating with impunity and without accountability.
I urge you to demand a full independent investigation into this shooting, call for the suspension of the agents involved pending that investigation, and work to establish oversight mechanisms that prevent federal law enforcement from issuing false statements about use of force incidents. The integrity of our justice system and the safety of our communities depend on immediate action.
