Oppose Restrictions on Gender-Affirming Care Funding

Recent attempts to restrict funding for gender-affirming care in federal appropriations bills pose a significant threat to the health and well-being of hundreds of thousands of transgender Americans. As your constituent, I strongly urge you to oppose any legislation that would limit access to this essential, life-saving healthcare.
On September 9, 2025, House Republicans attempted to ban funding for gender-affirming care in an appropriations bill. This follows the concerning passage of H.R. 1 in the House on May 22, 2025, which included provisions that endanger gender-affirming care coverage for Medicaid and Affordable Care Act plan recipients. While the Senate passed H.R. 1 on July 1, 2025 without these harmful provisions, the ongoing efforts to restrict access to gender-affirming care remain deeply troubling.
Research consistently demonstrates that gender-affirming care saves lives. A widespread ban on federal funding would not only cause hundreds of thousands of transgender Americans to lose access to critical healthcare but would also endanger patients, providers, and educational institutions across the country. The human cost of such restrictions would be immeasurable, potentially leading to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide among transgender individuals.
As a member of the House of Representatives, you have the power to protect the rights and health of all your constituents, including those who are transgender. I implore you to stand firm against any federal appropriations bill that includes restrictions on funding and access to gender-affirming care. Your support for inclusive healthcare policies will demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based medicine and the well-being of all Americans.
The decisions made in Congress on this issue will have far-reaching consequences for transgender individuals, their families, and our broader community. I urge you to prioritize the health and rights of all your constituents by opposing any attempts to limit access to gender-affirming care. Your leadership on this critical issue is essential and will be remembered by voters who believe in equality and comprehensive healthcare for all.
