He is burning down the country, and the Republican party is letting him. They are standing silently by and watching the same thing the rest of us are, and they are letting him. Why? What do they get out of the destruction of the wealthiest, most powerful, most stable democracy on the planet?
We are watching Congress do nothing as Trump and his band of merry men wreck the country. His latest stunt is declaring that the government is amid a national emergency so he can impose tariffs and then golfing. Never mind that storms have damaged our heartland, and thousands of Americans’ lives have been destroyed. Not a word of acknowledgment about the tragedy of average Americans, but he can get on the golf course without interruption. Of course. He can be the big man and impose idiotic tariffs on our trading partners with predictable disastrous results.
He invoked the Alien Enemies Act to get what he wanted; he claimed that he didn’t sign that document—someone else did….. and they let him get away with that! The result of that has been lawless and cruel deportations that continue despite the courts telling him to stop. And still, they do nothing. They weren’t even curious enough to ask how that happened. Wait. What? Someone other than the president can declare war? How is that possible?
Now, we must deal with tariffs that no one in the world, except his merry men, thinks are a good idea. The result has been immediate and devastating, as predicted. His brilliant idea of announcing these tariffs after the closing of the stock exchange was toddler thinking = that if he didn’t see it, it wouldn’t exist. The market did exactly what was expected and fell and has continued to decline since his announcement.
We are all watching as he destroys the government, business, educational, cultural, scientific, and economic pillars of our country, and Republicans have done nothing. Congress has the constitutional power to control tariffs, spending, departments, and cabinet membership, and the Republicans have done nothing but sit by and remain silent.
We see what Republicans are not doing, and we know that they are more afraid of him than they are of their constituents – the very people who, in good faith, voted them into your position to represent us. Are they waiting for something catastrophic to happen to the country? We are. As if what is happening isn’t terrible enough, we all know that something catastrophic is entirely possible, in fact, likely to occur. It’s only a matter of time; we cannot continue like this.
But go ahead, Republican Party, continue to allow him to bully you. Go ahead, Democrats, continue to be polite and politically correct. Republicans are nothing more than cowards, and we all know it. It’s only a matter of time before they realize their constituents have more power than he does, and they will be out of a job – a job they haven’t done as they should.
