Many households are facing rising electricity costs, and homeowners who want to reduce their bills currently face barriers such as time-consuming permitting, higher up-front costs, and uncertainty about approval requirements. Plug-in solar offers a practical, small-scale option that can help families lower electric bills and participate in clean energy without the complexity of a full rooftop installation. I support this legislation because it: Creates a clear legal path for homeowners to operate certified plug-in solar systems. Prioritizes safety by requiring properly certified equipment and compliance with relevant electrical and safety standards (including automatic shutdown during outages). Reduces unnecessary friction for consumers, such as burdensome approvals or extra conditions that effectively discourage adoption even when the technology is designed for household use.
