Oppose Invocation of Insurrection Act and Support Impeachment Proceedings

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to prevent President Trump from invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota and to support impeachment proceedings against him and his administration for this dangerous escalation. There is no insurrection occurring in Minnesota. What is happening is a manufactured crisis designed to justify military deployment against American citizens. The Trump administration deliberately escalated immigration enforcement in Minneapolis last month based on unsubstantiated fraud allegations that the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families determined were false, finding that child care facilities were operating normally. Despite this, Trump has publicly attacked Representative Ilhan Omar, calling her "one of the many scammers" without any evidence of wrongdoing, and announced the termination of temporary protected status for Somalis, requiring them to leave by March 17. The violence is coming from federal agents, not protesters. ICE officer Jonathan Ross fatally shot Renee Nicole Good earlier this month. On Wednesday night, another federal officer shot a man in the leg during a traffic stop. Governor Tim Walz accurately characterized this as "a campaign of organized brutality against the people of Minnesota by our own federal government." The administration is deliberately provoking unrest to create a pretext for invoking the Insurrection Act, a law last used during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that allows the president to deploy active-duty military domestically without congressional approval. This is a calculated path toward martial law. Trump has repeatedly threatened to use the Insurrection Act, including in October when he cited the need for "safe cities." He is now creating the conditions that would justify its invocation by sending more ICE agents into Minneapolis and encouraging increasingly violent tactics. I urge you to publicly oppose any invocation of the Insurrection Act and to immediately support impeachment proceedings against President Trump and his administration. This abuse of power threatens our constitutional democracy and the safety of American citizens.
