Oppose Deportations That Could Put Afghan Partners at Risk

I urge you to oppose the deportation or transfer to Pakistan of Afghans who supported U.S. forces and are now in immigration detention. These men and women served alongside Americans, often at great personal risk. Their work helped protect U.S. personnel and advance our mission. Sending them to a country where they could be returned to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan would put lives at grave risk and betray the promises made to those who stood with us.
This is not simply an immigration matter. It is a question of whether the United States honors its commitments and treats people fairly. Afghan interpreters, contractors, and other partners relied on U.S. assurances that their service would not be forgotten. Many remain vulnerable because of that service. Deporting them without a meaningful, individualized review could expose them and their families to retaliation, imprisonment, or worse.
I ask you to take immediate action to prevent any transfer or removal until each person’s case has received a full and fair review. Ensure that detainees have access to lawyers, interpreters, and a genuine opportunity to present evidence of their service and the danger they face. Do not send anyone to a third country without reliable safeguards against onward deportation and a clear process for protecting them.
Please press the administration to explain the legal basis for these removals, identify who is affected, and disclose what protections—if any—are in place. Congress should use its oversight authority to obtain answers and prevent people who helped the United States from being placed in harm’s way through rushed or opaque decisions.
The United States can enforce its laws while honoring its obligations. Our former partners deserve due process, humane treatment, and protection from being sent into foreseeable danger. Their service should count for something—not just in words, but in the decisions our government makes now.
Please speak out publicly and use every available legislative and oversight tool to stop these deportations and protect Afghan allies and their families.
