I write to express my grave concern over Speaker Mike Johnson's continued refusal to seat Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva and his failure to reconvene the House to address critical issues facing our nation. These actions not only undermine our democratic principles but also jeopardize the well-being of millions of Americans.
Adelita Grijalva won her election on September 23 with 70% of the vote, and her victory was certified on October 14. Yet, Speaker Johnson persists in denying her rightful place in Congress, effectively silencing the voices of 813,000 Arizonans. This blatant disregard for the will of the voters is unacceptable and must not stand.
The timing of this obstruction is particularly troubling, as it coincides with efforts to release the Jeffrey Epstein files and address other pressing matters. By preventing Rep-elect Grijalva from taking her seat, Speaker Johnson is potentially obstructing justice and transparency.
Moreover, Speaker Johnson's refusal to bring the House back into session to work on reopening the government is causing unnecessary harm to countless Americans. Bipartisan negotiations focusing on healthcare and other essential benefits for the American people are urgently needed. The Speaker's inaction is exacerbating the hardships faced by federal workers, disrupting vital services, and potentially compromising our national security.
If Speaker Johnson continues to refuse to seat Congresswoman-elect Grijalva and fails to reconvene the House for substantive bipartisan negotiations, he must be removed from office. His actions constitute a clear violation of his oath to support and defend the Constitution, which includes ensuring fair representation and the proper functioning of our government.
I urge you to take immediate action. Demand that Speaker Johnson seat Adelita Grijalva without further delay and call the House back into session to address the government shutdown. If he refuses, initiate proceedings to remove him as Speaker. The integrity of our democratic institutions and the welfare of the American people are at stake.
We cannot allow political maneuvering to undermine our democracy or the critical services our government provides. Act now to protect our constitutional principles and ensure that Congress fulfills its duties to the American people. The consequences of inaction are too severe to ignore.
