Support addition of NC DMV self-service kiosks to Mecklenburg County

As a constituent and a resident of your district, I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding your recent decision, as a member of the North Carolina House Appropriations Committee, to oppose an amendment that would have doubled the number of self-serve DMV kiosks within easy driving distance for our community here in Union County.
The DMV kiosk program has already proven successful across North Carolina, with over 25,000 people utilizing these kiosks in their first year at locations like Harris Teeter in Mecklenburg County. The kiosks have been praised for reducing wait times and providing convenient, efficient access to essential DMV services, including vehicle registration renewals and driver’s license updates. The expansion of this program has been met with enthusiasm, as it directly addresses the long-standing frustration many of us feel about spending hours waiting in line at the DMV.
Given this clear benefit, I am struggling to understand why you would block an amendment to expand a service that not only modernizes our state’s operations but also directly improves the daily lives of your constituents. Do you believe that we enjoy waiting in line for basic DMV services? If not, what was your reasoning for opposing this initiative, especially when it would have made these time-saving kiosks more accessible to the people you represent? You arevice-chair of the appropriations committee. How could you oppose this.
I urge you to reconsider your position on this issue. Expanding self-serve DMV kiosks is a practical, cost-effective way to serve North Carolinians better and reduce unnecessary burdens on working families.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
