Halt Unauthorized White House East Wing Demolition for $300M Ballroom

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over the ongoing demolition of the White House East Wing to construct a $300 million ballroom. This project bypasses crucial public review processes for historical properties and raises significant legal and ethical concerns. The demolition of a historic part of our nation's most important residence without proper oversight is alarming. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has called for a pause in construction until proper reviews are completed, a request I strongly support. The installation of loyalists on oversight committees to avoid scrutiny further compounds these concerns and suggests a deliberate attempt to circumvent proper procedures. The funding of this project is equally troubling. The $300 million price tag is being covered by private donors, including wealthy right-wing supporters, federal contractors, and corporate lawsuit settlements. This raises serious questions about potential corruption and conflicts of interest. As my representative, I urge you to conduct a thorough investigation into these funding sources and their potential influence on government decisions. This is not merely about preserving history; it's about upholding the integrity of our democratic institutions. The White House belongs to the American people, not to any single individual's vanity projects. The bypassing of normal public review processes sets a dangerous precedent for the treatment of our national landmarks and the rule of law. I implore you to take immediate action. Please demand a complete halt to any further construction until the legally required public review and approval process is completed. Additionally, I ask that you initiate congressional oversight into the project's funding sources and the circumvention of standard historical preservation protocols. Time is of the essence. Every day that passes without action risks further irreparable damage to this historic structure. Please act swiftly to protect our national heritage and ensure that proper democratic processes are followed. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and respect for our shared history.
