I am writing to express my grave concerns regarding the One Big Beautiful bill that blatantly favors the wealthy of the country at the expense of poor and middle-class Americans struggling to make ends meet.
Here’s a brief breakdown of what we know is in the bill that directly negatively impacts average Americans:
• Medicaid Cuts & Work Requirements
o Impact: Millions risk losing coverage. State hospital funding could collapse. How do Republicans live with this decision?
• Tax Cuts Favoring the Wealthy
o Impact: This widens inequality and increases deficits; middle-income relief is limited and temporary. This is this helpful to American citizens? How? In the meantime, one of the wealthiest men in the world is spending an obscene $50 million on his wedding spectacle that all the world can see. But, sure, the American people can suck it up and help support the wealthy as this tax cut intends to help them get even richer.
• SNAP (Food Stamp) Overhaul
o Impact: This will drive poor and near-poor individuals/families off assistance, worsening food insecurity. How is this helpful to Americans?
• Add-ons: Immigration, Defense, Riders
o Impact: Consolidating controversial policies in a massive bill makes it difficult to oppose without rejecting the entire measure. If that’s what it takes to put together a bill that reflects the needs and issues of the American people, then that is what needs to happen.
• Deficit Explosion
o Impact: Higher long-term interest rates, fiscal stress on future generations. This is projected to add roughly $2.6–4.2 trillion to the national debt over 10 years. How does this benefit me by using budget gimmicks to hide costs while deficits soar?
The Senate Parliamentarian has disallowed most of this. These provisions seem to be intended to shape America to the will of one man and his MAGA followers in Congress and the country. That is not who we are as a country. The minority does not overrule the majority, and the majority is clearly speaking out against what is going on.
Now is the time to stand up to a tyrant who is terrorizing the country with his self-centered, bullying, incompetent behavior. Do the right thing. Vote no on this bill or live with the shame of throwing average Americans under the bus.
