An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Vote Yes: Keep Troops Out of Polling Locations

261 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

Vote yes on this bill. Deploying troops at polling locations is an intimidation tactic, plain and simple. The military exists to defend this country abroad, not to stand over citizens exercising their most fundamental right at home. Armed soldiers at polling sites will suppress turnout, particularly in communities that already face barriers to voting. This is not a hypothetical — the presence of uniformed military personnel creates a chilling effect that discourages people from showing up. That is not democracy. My vote, and every vote, should be cast free from fear. Pass this bill.
