Oppose H.R. 1: the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act"

The proposed budget reconciliation bill H.R. 1 poses significant threats to vital government programs that support working families and vulnerable communities. Deep cuts to Medicaid, including harsh work requirements, would strip healthcare from millions. New eligibility rules and cost burdens for Medicare recipients risk pricing out seniors on fixed incomes. Slashing food assistance through SNAP cuts directly targets the nation's hungriest. These draconian measures seem designed to fund trillions in tax giveaways to the wealthy that will balloon the deficit. This wrongheaded legislation also undermines education by imposing an increased excise tax on university endowments and enabling a private school voucher system that diverts funds from public education. Environmental protections would be eroded through rollbacks on clean energy incentives as fossil fuels are promoted. Reproductive healthcare access is threatened by defunding Planned Parenthood. The path to citizenship is obstructed by tripling funding for ICE and Trump's deportation force. Such an extreme piece of legislation dismisses any notion of governing for the greater good. I urge you to reject this destructive bill that compromises democratic values to benefit the privileged few at the expense of the majority. Responsible governance demands policies that uplift all constituents, not just the wealthy donor class. Please vote no on H.R. 1.
