An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Demand Accountability for Immigration Enforcement Abuses and Election Interference

I am writing to demand that you fulfill your constitutional duty to provide oversight of the executive branch and protect the rule of law. Recent actions by the Trump administration represent a dangerous abandonment of legal procedures and democratic norms that require immediate congressional action. On February 3, 2026, U.S. District Court Judge Ana C. Reyes blocked Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti, finding that Noem ignored established legal procedures and acted based on hostility to nonwhite immigrants rather than facts. The 353,000 Haitians affected by this decision have a 94.6% workforce participation rate, pay $1.3 billion annually in taxes, and contribute $3.4 billion to the U.S. economy. Judge Reyes noted that Noem has terminated all twelve TPS designations that reached her desk, relying on inflammatory social media posts rather than evidence. Immigration enforcement has escalated to violence against American citizens. Marimar Martinez, a U.S. citizen, was shot five times by federal agents. Aliya Rahman, another citizen, was wrongfully detained. Renee Good was killed by federal agents. At a public forum held by Senator Richard Blumenthal and Representative Robert Garcia where victims testified, not a single Republican member of Congress attended. The administration is also interfering with elections. On January 28, FBI agents raided the Fulton County, Georgia election office and seized 700 boxes of ballots from the 2020 election. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was present at the raid despite having no law enforcement role, and connected FBI agents with Trump by phone. David Laufman, who served in the Justice Department under both parties, called this "extremely dangerous to our democracy." Trump has publicly called for Republicans to "nationalize" voting and take over elections in "15 places," despite the Constitution giving exclusive control of elections to states. I expect you to investigate these abuses, hold hearings with testimony from victims, and use every legislative tool available to restore accountability. Your constituents are watching, and a recent Fox News poll shows Democrats leading Republicans 52% to 46% on the generic ballot as Americans react to these abuses. Do your job.
