An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect Social Security benefits

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Slashing the Social Security Administration's workforce by up to 50% and shuttering hundreds of local and regional offices will severely undermine this vital program that 72.5 million Americans rely on for retirement, disability, and survivor benefits. Former SSA Commissioner Martin O'Malley warns these drastic cuts could lead to a "total system collapse" and disruption of benefits within just 30-90 days. This reckless sabotage disproportionately harms the most vulnerable - the poor, disabled, elderly, and those without internet access who depend on in-person assistance. I implore you to reject any budget or spending measure that fails to restore full staffing and operational capacity at the SSA and reopen closed field offices across the country. Protecting this 80-year-old social safety net that has never missed a payment is crucial for millions of your constituents.
