An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reinstate independent watchdogs, uphold oversight and rule of law

394 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

We must demand accountability for the unlawful firing of independent government watchdogs. The president is obligated to provide Congress with 30 days' notice before removing inspectors general as mandated by law. Circumventing this process undermines vital oversight and threatens the system of checks and balances fundamental to our democracy. Inspectors general play a crucial role in rooting out waste, fraud and abuse across the federal government. Their independence from political interference is essential to ensuring transparency and upholding the public trust. We cannot allow these firings to go unchecked, as it opens the door for unrestrained corruption to take hold. Decisive action is needed to reinstate the inspectors general and uphold the rule of law.
