An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Resist the Regime

The path Donald Trump is taking this country down is a pipeline to dictatorship and genocide. He’s deporting legal citizens along with immigrants who belong here with their families, though our economy is propped up on the work of undocumented migrants. He’s sending them to questionably sized camps in Guantanamo Bay and while food is rotting in the fields. So much for reducing inflation, but inflation isn’t a problem for the billionaire class, so it doesn’t matter to Donald Trump. When they run out of black and brown people to “deport”, they’ll come for trans and queer community, and whatever is left of the disabled community. Of course, those with disabilities that require life sustaining meds will simply die rationing supplies under poverty wages, denied health care, or frozen medicaid funds. He is — while holding hands with Elon Musk — destroying any benefit and protecting regulatory organization that could hinder his government slashing rampage. He boasted himself king all over the internet today. Whether to breed fear by an overgrown schoolyard bully or a genuine threat, it’s a terrifying sentiment altogether and frankly I don’t think the intent matters when the Republican Party rubber stamps every one of his actions and continues to approve of every power grab because they’re bought and paid for by a billionaire class more concerned with the commas in their bank statements than any moral or guise of compassion. I’m not willing to risk the future of the global population over a handful of white men in power using it as a ruler. They’re so worried about continuing to grow their incomprehensible wealth that they are actively working to reinstate some level of slavery in the United States — either via RFK’s “wellness” camps for those who are so disheartened by the inequity of the world that they need medication, or through eroding the separation of church and state and expanding privatized penal system criminalizing anything that isn’t white or christian. And maybe I’m wrong, maybe it won’t be that bad, but truly I need you to ask yourself if it’s worth the risk. Though flawed, I loved this country. We were working on improving the lives of its citizens, and being one of the best brokers of peace keeping on the global stage but we’ve been bogged down in fighting autocracy for nearly the last decade and I’m losing hope that anyone will do anything to stop the oligarchy. I implore you to vote against the Republican party. I beg you to vote against the fall of democracy and against the president. We used to live in a society that wholly condemned Hitler and his Nazi regime, but we’re staring the modern day version in the face, and it seems like half the country is cheering, and the other half doesn’t have the balls to stop him. This country was founded to spite kings. We the People, by the People for the People. We the People. Resist. I need you, we need you, this country, and this world needs you to resist.
