Oppose Todd Blanche's Confirmation—Rule of Law Cannot Be Negotiated Away

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose the confirmation of Todd Blanche as Attorney General, as his nomination moves toward a full Senate vote following the party-line approval in the Judiciary Committee. Mr. Blanche's record demonstrates he is fundamentally unfit for this office. The disqualifying issue is not a policy disagreement—it is his demonstrated willingness to negotiate a deal that subordinates the rule of law to political advantage. He agreed to: (1) purge career staff based on political loyalty, (2) create the "Anti-Weaponization" slush fund, (3) forever exempt the Trump family and businesses from the IRS, and (4) undermine the Epstein investigation. These terms deal profound harm to everyday taxpayers and the integrity of federal law enforcement. His subsequent pro forma memos purporting to de-authorize the Anti-Weaponization fund and "clarify" the scope of IRS immunity are nowhere near sufficient. Even if they were, any such insincere ex post facto remedy, delivered under duress, cannot undo the judgment he displayed in negotiating such a double-dealing arrangement in the first place. These memos, lacking the requisite signatures, are mere window dressing. They cannot restore credibility to someone who has already demonstrated he will subordinate the rule of law to personal loyalty. The Attorney General must protect the Department's independence and ensure that outcomes do not depend on political loyalty or negotiated insulation for preferred individuals. Mr. Blanche has already shown he will do neither. Confirming him would further entrench a DOJ where rule-of-law commitments are subordinated to political objectives and the Justice Department becomes a tool for protecting the powerful while ordinary Americans bear the cost. Have you learned anything at all from the confirmation of Mr. Hegseth, Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Noem, Ms. Bondi, Mr. Mullins? Confirming someone whose own personal loyalty is so compromised, whose demonstrated competence is so out of sync with what the job requires, and whose approach to the job is so at odds with what is good for the nation, always ends poorly - most notably for us, the taxpaying citizens. Your vote on Mr. Blanche's confirmation will define your own legacy on judicial independence and the rule of law. For the sake of the Justice Department's credibility and the protection of democratic norms, you must oppose it.
