An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Reject defunding contempt powers for Executive Branch lawlessness

I am writing to express grave concern over the provision in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Act that would defund the enforcement of contempt of court orders against government officials. This alarming measure appears designed solely to allow the executive branch to defy federal court rulings and flout the rule of law with impunity. The separation of powers and the ability of the judiciary to hold the other branches accountable is a cornerstone of our constitutional system of checks and balances. Stripping federal courts of their contempt powers would represent a dangerous breach of this foundational principle. I urge you to reject this provision and safeguard the authority and independence of the judicial branch to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of the people. Attempts to place the administration above the law are an affront to our democracy and system of justice that cannot be tolerated.
