No Free Ride for Corporations - They should pay their fair share

I am writing as your constituent to express my strong opposition to the plan to reduce North Carolina’s corporate income tax rate to zero by 2030. This policy will have devastating consequences for our state’s ability to invest in the public goods and services that make North Carolina a great place to live, work, and do business. Eliminating the corporate income tax is projected to cost North Carolina more than $2 billion in revenue every year—funds that are desperately needed for quality public education, child care, infrastructure, clean water, and other essential services that benefit all residents and businesses alike . Over time, the cumulative loss is expected to reach $42 billion, undermining our state’s future prosperity and stability. North Carolina already has the lowest corporate income tax rate among the 44 states that levy such a tax, with the current rate at just 2.25%—less than half the average of our neighboring states. Corporations, like individuals, benefit from public investments in education, transportation, and public safety. It is only fair that they contribute their share to maintain and improve these vital systems. Cutting corporate taxes even further does not guarantee economic growth or job creation. Instead, it risks shifting the tax burden onto working families, small businesses, and local governments, or forcing painful cuts to the services we all rely on. North Carolina’s prosperity depends on strong communities, a skilled workforce, and robust public infrastructure—not on giveaways to large, often out-of-state corporations. It’s time to stop taking care of corporations and giving them tax cuts and start taking care of the people who live and work in this state I urge you to prioritize the needs of North Carolinians by halting the elimination of the corporate income tax and maintaining a fair tax system that ensures everyone pays their share.
