Urgent Action Needed to Prevent SNAP Benefit Lapse for 42 Million Americans

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am deeply concerned about the impending crisis facing nearly 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP benefits. As of November 1st, these crucial food assistance programs are at risk of lapsing due to the Trump administration's decision not to use emergency funds to cover the $9 billion needed for November SNAP benefits. This decision by the administration is shortsighted and potentially devastating for millions of families. The USDA's refusal to tap into the $5 billion contingency fund or other nutrition programs puts an enormous burden on states and vulnerable citizens. While some states have begun using their own emergency funds, this is not a sustainable solution and may not be possible for all states. The administration's argument that using these funds would deplete resources for future emergencies fails to recognize that we are facing an immediate crisis. Hunger is not a future emergency - it is a present reality for millions of Americans. The potential impact on our communities, especially during these challenging economic times, cannot be overstated. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent this lapse in SNAP benefits. Congress must act swiftly to pass a standalone bill to fund SNAP for November and beyond. This is not a partisan issue - it's a matter of basic human dignity and the wellbeing of our constituents. The White House's attempt to blame Democrats for this funding lapse due to votes against a House-passed stopgap funding bill is a distraction from the real issue at hand. We need bipartisan cooperation to address this urgent matter, not political finger-pointing. Time is of the essence. With November 1st rapidly approaching, I implore you to prioritize this issue in Congress. The consequences of inaction are severe and will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable members of our society. Please work across the aisle to ensure that SNAP benefits continue uninterrupted. Our community's health, stability, and future depend on your swift and decisive action.
