UNLIMITED MONEY, UNLIMITED POWER
Since Citizens United, super PACs have created a two-tiered system where billionaires wield veto power over candidate viability and policy priorities. In the 2024 cycle alone, dark money groups spent $1.9 billion and independent expenditure committees accounted for $2.7 billion in spending. When a single donor can outspend a candidate's own campaign, democracy is inverted. We have drifted into a system of one dollar, one vote—not one person, one vote.
THE TRUST CRISIS
This concentration of wealth is destroying faith in democracy. Only 17% of Americans trust Washington to do what is right, and just 29% say democracy is working. When voters believe billionaires matter more than their votes, they disengage. Lower participation makes politicians more dependent on mega-donors. Greater donor dependence means less responsiveness to constituents. We are trapped in a vicious cycle that erodes the foundation of representative government.
CONSTITUTIONAL AND PROVEN
Critics claim this violates free speech. The Supreme Court disagrees. We already limit contributions to candidates and ban foreign money—restrictions upheld consistently by the Court. The Abolish Super PACs Act does the same: it limits contributions to super PACs, not spending. Free speech survives; corruption does not.
Other democracies prove this works. Canada, the UK, and Germany maintain strict campaign finance limits while hosting vibrant, competitive elections. Their citizens don't feel disenfranchised. America doesn't have to choose between free speech and democratic equality—we simply need laws that match our values.
POLICY DISTORTION
Super PACs don't just determine who wins—they determine what gets discussed. Universal healthcare, climate action, gun reform languish because they threaten mega-donor interests. Tax cuts for billionaires and corporations sail through Congress. This isn't democracy responding to voters; it's democracy responding to financiers.
THE MOMENT IS NOW
