An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Investigation and Accountability for Violence in Minneapolis

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am writing to demand immediate Congressional investigation into the violence and Constitutional violations occurring in Minneapolis. What is happening there threatens the fundamental rights of all Americans, and I need you to take action now. Renee Nicole Good, a poet who won the 2020 American Academy of Poets Prize, was killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Her murder scene, marked by tire tracks, bullet holes, and stuffed animals left by mourners, represents a breaking point for Constitutional protections in American cities. A family with six children was pulled over and tear-gassed while returning from a basketball game. Their infant stopped breathing and required CPR. These are not isolated incidents but part of a pattern of door-to-door searches, show-your-papers requirements, and violent enforcement actions that violate the Fourth Amendment rights of American citizens and residents. Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino marched through Minneapolis streets in what witnesses describe as militarized displays of force. Lutheran pastor and journalist Angela Denker, author of Red State Christians and Disciples of White Jesus, has documented these events firsthand. She reports that the Minneapolis community has responded with remarkable moral clarity. Clergy from multiple faith backgrounds have gathered at sites of violence. Parents at local elementary schools have marched in support of their immigrant neighbors. Ordinary Americans are standing together against what they recognize as tyranny. I am asking you to sponsor or co-sponsor legislation that establishes an independent investigation into these incidents with subpoena power. Those responsible for killing Renee Nicole Good must face accountability. Federal agents conducting warrantless searches and using chemical weapons against families must be held to Constitutional standards. This is not about immigration policy. This is about whether we remain a nation governed by law or descend into state-sanctioned violence against our own communities. What is happening in Minneapolis can happen anywhere. I need to know where you stand and what specific actions you will take to protect Constitutional rights and demand accountability for these deaths.
