Prevent Misuse of Military for Political Gain
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express my deep concern about the potential misuse of our military forces for political purposes. Recent reports suggest that there may be efforts to incite unrest and justify deploying troops in American cities, particularly in Portland. This is a dangerous precedent that threatens the very foundations of our democracy.
The spread of misinformation about civil unrest through various media channels appears to be part of a coordinated strategy to create chaos and confusion. This manufactured crisis could be used as a pretext for deploying military forces in a manner inconsistent with their constitutional role. Such actions would cross a line that has long separated the United States from authoritarian regimes.
Our military is not a "personal palace guard" or a "political police force." Its purpose is to defend our nation, not to serve the interests of any individual or political faction. The use of troops against American citizens exercising their First Amendment rights would be a grave abuse of power and a violation of our democratic principles.
I urge you to take immediate action to prevent any misuse of our armed forces. This includes:
1. Investigating and countering the spread of misinformation about civil unrest.
2. Ensuring that any deployment of federal forces is strictly limited to lawful purposes and subject to rigorous oversight.
3. Reaffirming the military's non-partisan role and its oath to the Constitution, not to any individual.
The stakes could not be higher. As Rick Wilson aptly put it, we are at risk of "crossing the Rubicon" – a point of no return for our republic. We must act now to protect our democratic institutions and the rule of law.
I implore you to use your position and influence to safeguard our democracy from these threats. The eyes of history are upon us, and future generations will judge us by our actions in this critical moment. Let us stand firm in defense of our Constitution and the principles that have long made our nation a beacon of freedom and democracy.
