An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Stop the Chaos in Health & Human Services

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the escalating turmoil within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Recent reports of high-level resignations—driven by allegations of political interference, severe budget reductions, and the circulation of misinformation under the Trump administration—are deeply alarming. These resignations are not isolated events but rather a signal of a government agency in crisis, unable to carry out its vital mission free from political pressures. An especially troubling flashpoint is the ongoing standoff regarding the dismissal of CDC Director Susan Monarez. The resistance by Dr. Monarez and her legal team, who insist that only President Trump himself has the authority to remove her, underscores the instability and dysfunctional management gripping the agency. This instability poses real risks not only for public health but for our national security. Public health crises—from pandemics to bioterrorism threats—demand a stable, scientifically grounded, and politically independent HHS. Yet Mr. Kennedy’s longstanding opposition to vaccines and his anti-scientific policies restricting access to these lifesaving tools threaten to roll back decades of medical progress, making our nation more vulnerable to preventable outbreaks. Weakening vaccination access is not merely a health policy issue—it creates fertile ground for domestic crises and heightens our vulnerability to foreign adversaries who may exploit biological threats. I urge you, Senator, to speak out publicly against these dangerous trends and to use every oversight power available to ensure that HHS and its agencies remain grounded in science, free of political meddling, and fully resourced to protect the American people. Safeguarding the integrity and effectiveness of our public health institutions is essential not only for the well-being of our citizens but also for the strength and security of our country. Thank you for your continued service and for your attention to this urgent matter.
