As one of your constituents, I strongly urge you to oppose the confirmation of Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
As you know, the FBI is a non-partisan body loyal to the Constitution, the law, and the truth. Being the primary investigative arm of the Department of Justice, its director must remain and demonstrate at all times non-partisan judgment. Mr. Patel's threat to exact revenge on political rivals has shown his devotion to Donald Trump and the Republican Party. He has openly threatened and planned efforts to undermine the civil rights of Americans he deems unworthy or less than. He has declared himself to be 'part of Donald Trump's army' which, on the face of it, is disturbing; additionally, his confirmation would contribute to the weaponization of the Justice Department that the President fervently wants and is actively setting up with his unqualified cabinet nominees.
At the very least, Mr. Patel lacks the professional experience and temperament to lead such a large and vital organization. He has no high-level law enforcement experience, which is the least of his disqualifying skills and abilities. His blunders and errors have caused conflict and confusion in other parts of the world. He traffics in lies and misrepresentations for his and the President's political gain. His general disregard for the truth can not be considered a qualification for a position of such importance.
I care about the Constitution. You were elected into your position to defend that Constitution, and I have every right to expect that you do so.
A yes vote for Kash Patel is a vote to undermine the independence of the Department of Justice and the FBI.
Vote no on Kash Patel's nomination.
