Stand Up for Ukraine and Bring This Bill to a Vote

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to move without delay to bring the Ukraine Support Act to the Senate floor. This legislation is an important step toward deterring further aggression, supporting international law, and strengthening the security of the United States and our allies. First, the bill would help deter aggression by imposing a clear cost on further territorial expansion and raising the political and military price for the aggressor. History shows that unchallenged invasion invites more instability, while a firm response can help prevent the spread of conflict. By acting now, the Senate can help reinforce the principle that borders cannot be redrawn by force. Second, this legislation supports international law and the rules-based order that has helped preserve peace for decades. In spite of the current administration's recent actions, this bill sends a strong message that unprovoked invasion and the violation of sovereignty are unacceptable. That message matters not only for Ukraine, but for every country that depends on the stability of international norms. The bill also protects regional stability by strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and reducing the risk of wider war spilling into neighboring countries. It demonstrates commitment to our allies and NATO partners, which improves coalition cohesion and strengthens deterrence credibility. In addition, assistance for economic aid and reconstruction can provide meaningful humanitarian relief to civilians, displaced families, and communities struggling to recover. This approach is also cost-effective compared with the far greater human and financial costs of a broader war. Military aid and sanctions are far less expensive than a prolonged regional conflict or a larger direct intervention, a fact he current administration does not seem capable of grasping. The bill also supports Europe’s energy security by reducing dependence on coercive energy suppliers and encouraging more diversified supply chains. Finally, helping Ukraine preserve democratic institutions and resist authoritarian pressure sends a powerful signal to democracies everywhere. It shows that the United States still stands for a rules-based order and will support partners facing coercion. For these reasons, I respectfully ask you to move without delay to bring the Ukraine Support Act to the Senate floor and support its passage.
