Recall Ohio National Guard from Unnecessary D.C. Deployment

I am writing to express my deep concern and opposition to Governor Mike DeWine's recent deployment of Ohio National Guard troops to Washington D.C. at President Trump's request. This action is not only unnecessary but also represents a troubling misuse of our state's resources and an unacceptable abuse of power. The justification for this deployment is fundamentally flawed. Washington D.C. is currently experiencing its lowest violent crime rate in 30 years. There is no national emergency that warrants the presence of our National Guard troops in the nation's capital. This deployment appears to be politically motivated rather than a response to a genuine security threat. As one of only six states – all with Republican governors – to send troops to D.C., Ohio is participating in what many see as a partisan exercise. Our National Guard should not be used as political pawns in a manufactured crisis. These citizen soldiers signed up to protect and serve their communities, not to be thrust into the middle of a political spectacle. The impact of this deployment on Ohio families cannot be overstated. It disrupts the lives of our Guard members, many of whom have civilian jobs and family responsibilities. This unnecessary activation pulls them away from their regular duties and places undue stress on their families and employers. Furthermore, this action sets a dangerous precedent. The consideration of deploying troops to other major cities like Chicago, New York, and Baltimore without clear justification raises serious concerns about the erosion of local authority and the potential for federal overreach. I urge you to take immediate action to recall our Ohio National Guard troops from Washington D.C. Their presence is not required, and their deployment goes against the core principles of when and how our National Guard should be utilized. We must ensure that our Guard members are respected and deployed only when absolutely necessary for genuine emergencies or natural disasters. Please stand up for the rights of our citizen soldiers and the integrity of our National Guard. Bring our troops home and oppose any future attempts to use them for political purposes. The safety and well-being of Ohioans should be our top priority, not participating in unnecessary shows of force in other jurisdictions.
