The pause on U.S. intelligence sharing and weapons deliveries to Ukraine is deeply concerning and risks emboldening Russia's aggression. It undermines Ukraine's ability to defend itself against continued Russian attacks, which have killed civilians and damaged civilian infrastructure. Cutting off this vital support while demanding unilateral concessions from Ukraine plays into Russia's hands and could prolong the war. Ukraine has shown its commitment to finding a diplomatic resolution by expressing willingness to sign an economic agreement, which could serve as a framework for future negotiations. However, any lasting peace must include binding security guarantees to protect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Russia has given no indication it will accept reasonable terms, having repeatedly violated past agreements. I urge resuming intelligence cooperation and military aid to Ukraine immediately. This is necessary to fortify Ukraine's defensive capabilities and bring Russia to the negotiating table from a position of strength, not weakness. Peace through capitulation to Putin's maximalist demands is no peace at all. The United States must stand firm with Ukraine and its democratic aspirations against Russia's neo-imperial revanchism and unprovoked aggression. Lasting peace requires upholding principles of national self-determination and respect for human rights.
