Stop the offshore wind buyouts. The Trump administration is paying nearly $2 billion in taxpayer money to kill energy projects this country desperately needs — and Congress needs to investigate and block these payments immediately. We're facing a looming power shortage, and the administration's response is to pay foreign energy companies to walk away from permitted, shovel-ready projects. The math here is brutal. These buyouts eliminate 8 gigawatts of planned generation — enough to power more than 3 million homes. Replacing that capacity means waiting seven to ten years for new transmission permits and construction. Meanwhile, communities in New York, New Jersey, and California have already committed hundreds of millions to port infrastructure and worker training programs built around these projects. Vineyard Wind alone is projected to save Massachusetts customers $1.4 billion on electricity bills over 20 years. Killing projects like it doesn't just cost jobs — it costs ratepayers real money for decades. The Department of Interior appears to be routing these payments through a Judgment Fund meant for legal settlements, despite no active litigation with developers like TotalEnergies. That alone warrants a full investigation. This isn't energy policy — it's a politically motivated demolition of American energy infrastructure. Block these payments and protect the offshore wind projects still moving forward.
