This morning President Trump and his administration engaged in a military operation that violated international law, the UN charter, and the US constitution. While our history is rife with incidents of presidential overreach in the use of military force, the constitution makes it clear that Congress is tasked with the power to declare war. I ask that Congress hold the president to task for this reckless act and enforce strictly the terms of the constitution and the war powers act to ensure that the situation in Venezuela is legal and in the best interests of the country. Failing to hold this president accountable for this act endangers international stability and will embolden other rogue nations to consider similar illegal acts. There is no legitimate reason for the US to occupy Venezuela. This act is designed to distract from the president’s failures and corruption. Do not allow it to work. Act now and with determination.
