Laken Riley ends due process

To: Rep. McDonald Rivet, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Mount Morris, MI

April 15

The Laken Riley Act is a misguided approach that undermines fundamental principles of justice and due process. While the goal of addressing crimes by undocumented immigrants is understandable, this legislation enables draconian measures that erode civil liberties and human rights protections. Instead of pursuing harsh punitive policies, we should focus on comprehensive immigration reform that provides a pathway to legal status for undocumented individuals living and working in our communities. Additionally, we need stronger investment in our judicial system to ensure fair trials and equal treatment under the law, regardless of immigration status. Stripping away due process and enabling discriminatory practices against immigrants sets a dangerous precedent and goes against core American values of justice and human dignity. I urge you to reconsider support for this misguided act and instead champion policies that uphold our nation's ideals of equality and human rights for all.
