ICE is breaking the law stop them

This is just one example of why you need to stop ICE besides racially profiling, ignoring habeas corpus, they are accessing information that is illegal for them to have. Jemmy was on her way home from a vacation in Mexico with her husband and kids. Border Patrol took her into custody on the way home with no explanation. Jemmy came legally to the US and has been a lawful legal resident for THIRTY-THREE YEARS. First, she was held in the Boston airport for four days without access to a phone, her medication, or a shower. Lawyers were told she wasn’t “in the US” yet according to Border Patrol, and when they arrived at the airport were told that Jemmy “didn’t have a right to counsel.” Also, there had been no charges filed. It was unclear why a legal immigrant who was legally present in the US was being held by immigration agents. Her lawyer’s best guess: being busted for marijuana use as a 20-year-old in college. It seemed like a longshot, because her case was extremely weak (the cops hadn’t even recorded the amount of marijuana) and she had pleaded guilty and done her probation. State law today wouldn’t even allow her to be charged. AND the records were sealed… immigration authorities shouldn’t even have access to them. But given that Jemmy had no criminal record, it was the only thing her lawyer could figure out, and immigration officials still refused to tell them why she was being held. Meanwhile, Jemmy’s health was suffering, they had to take her to the hospital twice. Her lawyer did some quick work and got a judge to vacate Jemmy’s tiny marijuana conviction. The conviction no longer existed legally. Her lawyer immediately filed a petition for her release. All of a sudden, Jemmy was released (the story gets worse… she was eventually just turned loose in the rain. She walked to a nearby mall and asked a stranger to use his phone. Her family found her shivering and disoriented in a Cheesecake Factory thirty miles from her home). Only after the fact did an ICE lawyer admit that they had used the marijuana charge as a basis for holding her. ICE could not have gotten access to those conviction records except through illegal means. So Jemmy didn’t break the law, but ICE surely did. Her lawyer went on to say, “It is a big deal when law enforcement violates the law under the guise of enforcing it. But I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States as an attorney. The rule of law needs to be respected. If it can happen to a non-citizen, Green Card holder who's been following nearly every rule her whole life, paying taxes - it can happen to you. It can happen to anybody.” This is just one example. There are many, many more including citizens being arrested. When I was a kid, these were the kind of stories I was told about foreign governments. Terrifying, evil governments that disappeared people or held them in prison on trumped up charges. This is what you are allowing the United States to become. Do something about it!
