This is the I don't know how many times message to ask my officials to call, loudly, for all US arms sales to cease, and for our country to call, loudly and consistently, for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. I don't even know what to say about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza -- it's inexcusable. The IDF persecution of Al Jazeera reporters who are the only journalists left alive in the region after a series of horrific deaths is beyond the pale. The targeting of Lebanon, apart from being horrible and a crime, also massively destabilizes the region in a way which makes us all less safe. And the recent bombing of ruins and archeological sites in Tyre is a destruction not just of human life, but of the shared wealth of human history which we are never getting back. If you were upset when Notre Dame burned, you should be calling for a ceasefire in Lebanon. If you believe in freedom of the press as a value of a just modern world, you should call loud and long for a ceasefire in Gaza. If you believe children shouldn't be shot in the head (see Dr. Feroze Sidhwa's New York Times op-ed), then we should all be screaming for a ceasefire in Gaza. Come on, my dear elected representatives. Help me out here.
