Fear Over Tariffs

To: Rep. Rogers, Sen. Britt, Sen. Tuberville

From: A constituent in Auburn, AL

April 7

I am a constituent of yours, and I am writing to express my deep fear and outrage over the devastating impact of the tariffs enacted by the Republican administration. These sweeping tariffs are already putting a significant strain on working- and middle-class families in Alabama—and the worst may be yet to come. While these tariffs may be framed as bold economic policy or political leverage, the truth is this: they function as a tax on ordinary Americans. Prices on everyday goods are rising—groceries, appliances, clothing, vehicles—and it’s those living paycheck to paycheck who are hit the hardest. Wealthy individuals may barely notice the added costs. But the majority of your constituents cannot absorb the increase without cutting essentials or falling deeper into financial stress. This isn’t some abstract economic theory. This is real, measurable harm being done to the people you were elected to represent. Small businesses are struggling to source affordable materials. Farmers are losing access to global markets. Families are watching their budgets stretch past the breaking point. These policies do not punish foreign governments or elites—they punish us. I urge you to oppose further tariffs and speak out against the economic damage already inflicted. This is not sustainable. And it is not fair. Please show the people of Alabama that you value their livelihoods over political theater. I expect a response.
