I am writing to you today as your constituent to express my profound alarm regarding the recent large-scale military strikes on Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. I am calling on you to support a formal inquiry and the introduction of articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors related to these actions. The U.S. Constitution, under Article I, Section 8, Clause 11, grants the sole power to declare war to the United States Congress. By ordering a pre-dawn assault on a sovereign nation and the abduction of its head of state without a declaration of war or specific statutory authorization from Congress, the President has bypassed the checks and balances essential to our democracy. I believe these actions constitute a "high crime" for the following reasons: • Usurpation of Congressional Authority: The President has unilaterally initiated an "armed conflict" without seeking the consent of the American people through their elected representatives.  • Violation of International Law: The strikes on civilian and military installations in Caracas and surrounding states, along with the forced removal of a foreign leader, risk destabilizing an entire region and undermining the rule of law globally.  • Expansion of Executive Power: Bypassing the War Powers Resolution of 1973 by designating the Venezuelan government as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" sets a dangerous precedent that allows any future President to wage war without oversight. As my representative in the Senate, you have a sworn duty to uphold the Constitution. I urge you to demand transparency regarding the legal justification for this operation and to hold the Executive Branch accountable for this unprecedented escalation. I look forward to hearing your position on this critical matter and learning what steps you will take to restore constitutional order.
