Immediate Action Required: Reinstate and Invest in Milk Safety Testing

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express deep concern over the current state of safety oversight in our national milk supply and to demand immediate action to reinstate and properly fund comprehensive milk safety testing protocols. Milk is a foundational nutritional resource for millions of Americans, including infants, children, and vulnerable populations. Despite this, recent policy shifts and regulatory complacency have led to an alarming erosion in the rigor of milk quality and contaminant screening. This is unacceptable. It is imperative that we recognize the biological complexity and vulnerability of the dairy supply chain. From antibiotic residues and aflatoxins to pathogenic contamination and adulteration risks, the threats to milk integrity are real and well-documented. Yet, our current oversight systems are neither robust nor transparent enough to ensure public safety. The decision to scale back safety testing in the name of cost-efficiency or deregulation is not just shortsighted—it is dangerous. Every gallon of milk that goes untested is a potential vector for harm, especially for those who rely on it as a primary source of nutrition. Scientific integrity and consumer trust are eroded when economic expediency is prioritized over health and safety. We demand that immediate steps be taken to: 1. Reinstate rigorous, routine milk safety testing at all stages of production and distribution. 2. Invest in modern analytical technologies capable of detecting emerging contaminants with greater sensitivity and specificity. 3. Mandate full transparency in test results, with publicly accessible data and clear regulatory consequences for non-compliance. 4. Establish an independent review board composed of scientists, public health officials, and consumer advocates to oversee milk safety policy. Failure to act swiftly and decisively on this issue is a failure to protect public health. We will not stand by while regulatory negligence puts our families at risk. The time to invest in the safety of our milk supply is now.
