I am writing to urge you to continue prioritizing and protecting LGBTQIA+ rights in Michigan and to actively fight for expanded protections at the federal level. While Michigan has taken important steps to ensure equality, these protections must remain a priority to safeguard this community against discrimination and political attacks.
I am watching closely to see how you and your colleagues uphold these rights and expect to see strong advocacy in keeping these protections intact. Beyond Michigan, the fight for equality is far from over, and I ask that you also push for comprehensive federal protections to ensure that LGBTQIA+ individuals across the country have the same rights and protections under the law.
Specifically, I urge you to:
1 Ensure Michigan’s LGBTQIA+ protections remain strong and protected against any attempts to weaken them.
2 Advocate for federal legislation that enshrines LGBTQIA+ rights nationwide, including protections in employment, housing, healthcare, and public accommodations.
3 Speak out against any efforts—state or federal—that seek to roll back progress on equality.
LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights, and it is critical that lawmakers like you stand up to protect them. I look forward to seeing your continued commitment to this issue and will be paying close attention to the actions taken at both the state and federal levels.
Please let me know what steps you are taking to ensure these protections remain intact. Thank you for your time and leadership on this critical issue.
