Urgent Concern Over National Park Service Layoffs

To: Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock, Rep. Jack

From: A constituent in Hampton, GA

February 17, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent and an advocate for the preservation of our nation’s most treasured public lands. The recent layoffs within the National Park Service (NPS) are deeply troubling and will have severe consequences for the protection and upkeep of our parks. Even before these cuts, there was already a critical need for more rangers and staff to manage the increasing visitation and growing maintenance backlog. These layoffs will further strain an already overburdened workforce, leading to deteriorating park conditions, decreased visitor safety, and increased risks to wildlife and fragile ecosystems. Without enough personnel, it will be nearly impossible to properly maintain trails, enforce regulations, and provide educational programs that are essential for conservation efforts. National parks are not just beautiful landscapes; they are economic drivers for local communities, educational resources for future generations, and irreplaceable natural and cultural heritage sites. Cutting back on staffing is a short-sighted decision that undermines the long-term sustainability of these protected lands. I urge you to take immediate action to restore and increase funding for the National Park Service to ensure that our public lands remain well-maintained, safe, and accessible for all. Please fight to protect the NPS budget and prevent further cuts that will harm our parks and those who dedicate their lives to preserving them. I appreciate your attention to this urgent issue and look forward to your response on how you plan to address it.
