Every time you think the Trump administration cannot possibly act any more foolishly or show the world how little it understands governing, it manages to outdo itself!
Did Trump forget Congress passed a federal law in 2022 prohibiting Russian oil imports?
Apparently, someone needs to remind this administration that the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act requires the president to certify THREE conditions before lifting the ban:
Russia agrees to withdraw its forces and cease hostilities under an agreement accepted by Ukraine.
Russia poses no immediate military threat to NATO members.
Russia recognizes Ukraine’s right to freely elect its own government.
The law ALSO requires congressional consultation, a written report, presidential certification, and a 90 day waiting period.
Yet on October 9, Trump’s Treasury Department authorized Russian diesel imports through April 7, 2027.
Congress, WHICH of these conditions has Russia met?
Where is the required certification?
Where is the legal justification?
Even Republican senators are questioning whether Trump’s actions violate federal law.
Demand an immediate investigation, require full disclosure of the administration’s legal authority, and stop any imports found to violate the law!
Congress, are you going to enforce the laws you passed, or has your constitutional authority become another casualty of Trump’s presidency?
You wrote the law. DO YOUR JOB AND ENFORCE IT!
