I am writing to demand immediate action to ensure equal protection under the law for disabled adults and survivors of survivors of systemic neglect in the State of Georgia. For over 40 years, disabled individuals have been meaningful access to justice-excluded from courtrooms, ignored by law enforcement, and stripped of their rights to be plaintiffs in civil and criminal proceedings. In a state that to uphold the Constitution, how is it possible that only a handful of disabled adults have been recognized as plaintiffs in four decades? This is not oversight-it’s systematic exclusion. Our civil rights are obstructed. Our lives are treated as financial instruments for others, not as sacred and protected as the law states. End trafficking of our benefit funds and legal identities of the disabled adults. Restore access to courts for disabled plaintiffs in both civil and criminal matters. Please enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act and Georgia’s own disability protections, including the Georgia Equal Employment for Persons with Disabilities Code. Investigate and redress dedicates of systemic neglect, willful denial of due process, and obstruction of equal protection. Disabled adults are not invisible. We are not expendable. We are citizens entitled to justice, dignity, and full participation in the legal system.
