Israel is flattening the Jabalia Refugee Camp

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Pres. Biden, Rep. D'Esposito, Sen. Schumer

In the north of the Gaza Strip, the situation is deteriorating as Israeli forces withdraw troops and launch a relentless bombing campaign in Jabalia refugee camp, targeting residential blocks, an UNRWA school, and children fetching water. I urge you to urgently address this escalating crisis to stop the bloodshed of Palestinian civilians. In the south, Israel’s assault on Rafah continues while Jabalia in the north is flattened by airstrikes, demolishing entire neighborhoods and burying people under rubble. Twenty-two people, mostly women and children, are confirmed dead from one residential block outside Kamal Adwan Hospital, which lacks medical supplies. At least eight people, including children, have been killed after Israeli shelling targeted them while filling water containers in the al-Faluja area. Witnesses reported displacement to Faluja, considered safe, only for it to be shelled by Israelis. These reports follow occupation forces obstructing medical assistance, including firing upon ambulances. This exacerbates the dire humanitarian situation, as preventing medical aid access violates international law, a recurrent issue with Israel's bombing of hospitals. Another evacuation center in Jabalia was bombed after the Israeli military withdrew, targeting displaced families. Bombing evacuation centers, refugee camps, and civilians, and targeting healthcare facilities, are heinous war crimes designed to increase civilian casualties deliberately. Reports indicate people in the North survive on 200 calories a day, resorting to drinking seawater. Jabalia camp has faced repeated bombings and invasions, causing massacres and civilian casualties. Footage shows children trapped under rubble and families dead in the streets. Immediate action is imperative to stop our country’s support of this genocide. Palestinians in Jabalia are trapped with no place to go as Israel assaults again. We cannot permit these war crimes to continue. Israel must not act with impunity. Words are insufficient; concrete action is needed to hold Israel accountable. I implore you to halt all arms sales to Israel, sanction the apartheid state, implement a two-way trade embargo, and freeze its overseas assets. As my elected official, you must halt this genocide and end these atrocities.
