As a prominent Palestinian doctor from Gaza's al-Shifa Hospital has died in an Israeli jail after torture and abuse, I demand immediate action to address this grave injustice and the ongoing violence against Palestinians. The killing of Dr. Adnan al-Barash, head of orthopedics, after more than four months of detention is an unconscionable crime and a violation of international humanitarian law. Israel's systematic targeting of medical personnel and infrastructure, with over 1,500 health workers wounded and 309 imprisoned during the war on Gaza, is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest terms. I call for an immediate ceasefire to halt the escalating violence and loss of innocent lives. Furthermore, I urge an end to funding and arming the Israeli government until they uphold human rights and respect international law. The international community, especially nations claiming to uphold human rights, must take concrete measures to protect Palestinians by reinstating full funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This vital agency provides essential humanitarian aid and services to millions of displaced Palestinians. The murder of Dr. al-Barash is yet another atrocity in the ongoing assault on Gaza. Concrete action is long overdue to secure justice, human rights, and self-determination for the Palestinian people.
