My friends in Minneapolis fear for violence and their lives. There have been multiple violent confrontations between local residents and federal agents. There are forceful detentions and confrontations that are disrupting daily life and civil liberties. This is not what America promises our citizens.
ICE agents are harassing and destroying property at local businesses. They are setting up random roadblocks and profiling people based on the color of their skin. They are teargassing children. They are hurting and embarrassing America.
Please act to restrict lethal force in community enforcement settings immediately. Create a zero-tolerance policy limiting arrests without judicial warrants. Add oversight mechanisms to ensure actions respect local laws.
Create an independent investigation into recent incidents with federal, state, and local participation. Release documentation and videos. Require de-escalation training and clear use-of-force restrictions. Ban militarized tactics like roadblocks and aggressive crowd control in residential neighborhoods.
Do not let this stand. Please work to immediately cease this violent environment. Please preserve the dignity and integrity of our precious nation, our values, our safety.
