I am very disappointed that the Republicans in congress refuse to negotiate in good faith to keep the government functioning.
Democrats seem to finally be realizing that the current crop of Republicans cannot be relied upon to keep their word and must therefore commit to any agreed-upon concessions by having them written into any continuing resolution that comes to the floor.
Hopefully, House and Senate Democrats will keep their resolve and insist upon the restoration of funding for Americans’ healthcare, including subsidies for insurance premiums under the Affordable Care Act, for Medicaid, and for SNAP at a bare minimum.
I would also hope that we can pay for promoting the general welfare by diverting funds away from Israel’s criminal ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza—goodness knows there’s plenty of money there.
As for Republicans in Congress, I genuinely hope they can earn back the trust that they so shamefully squandered. But I’m not optimistic.
Thank you.
