The recent executive orders signed by President Trump are deeply concerning for the rights and dignity of transgender and non-binary individuals across the nation. Proclaiming only two biological sexes and halting diversity, equity and inclusion programs is a regressive step that undermines progress made in creating a more inclusive society. These orders not only deny the very existence of transgender and non-binary identities, but also deprive them of essential services and legal protections. Preventing gender marker updates on federal identification documents like passports effectively erases their identity and subjects them to potential discrimination and harassment when traveling. Barring access to gender-affirming healthcare through government programs jeopardizes the wellbeing of a vulnerable community. Moreover, dismantling DEI initiatives within federal agencies signals an alarming disregard for fostering diversity, equality and representation across the workforce. These programs play a crucial role in promoting fairness, understanding and equal opportunities - values that should be upheld, not discarded. We urge a reconsideration of these executive actions which undermine basic human rights and roll back vital protections for transgender and non-binary citizens. A truly equitable society recognizes and respects the identities of all individuals, safeguarding their access to essential services and legal documents that accurately reflect who they are. Restoring these principles of inclusion and equal dignity is not only a moral imperative but necessary to uphold the democratic ideals our nation stands for.
