It is imperative that the international community take decisive action to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. The roughly $300 billion in frozen Russian assets held by the United States, European Union, Britain, and others could provide vital funding for Ukraine's security and reconstruction efforts. These assets were rightfully seized to punish Russia for its unprovoked invasion and cut off funds for its illegal war. However, allowing these funds to remain frozen is an inefficient use of resources when Ukraine desperately needs support. Transferring a portion of these frozen assets directly to Ukraine would bolster its military capabilities and aid in rebuilding the immense damage caused by Russian forces. The ongoing destruction has displaced millions and devastated cities like Kharkiv, once home to 400,000 people. Releasing these funds is a moral imperative to help Ukraine defend itself and rebuild what has been lost. The growing calls from leaders in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to utilize these assets for Ukraine should be heeded. As the war drags on into its fourth year with the threat of waning support, it is time to take concrete steps. Providing Ukraine with the financial resources it needs from Russia's own seized funds is a just and practical solution. Urgent action is needed to ensure Ukraine has the means to protect its sovereignty and people.
