I am writing to you as a concerned constituent from Michigan who believes it is time for a change in Senate leadership. The recent vote to end the government shutdown—without securing critical concessions on Affordable Care Act subsidies—has left millions of Americans vulnerable to skyrocketing healthcare costs. This outcome is unacceptable.
While Senator Chuck Schumer voted against the final deal, his inability to unify the Democratic caucus and prevent eight members from siding with Republicans has exposed a failure of leadership. Progressive voices, including Rep. Ro Khanna and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, have rightly called for Senator Schumer to step down. I agree with them. [usatoday.com]
We need bold, principled leadership that reflects the values and urgency of our time. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has consistently demonstrated a commitment to protecting working families, defending healthcare access, and standing up to corporate interests. Her clarity and courage during this shutdown fight have shown she is ready to lead.
I urge you to support a transition in Senate leadership and consider backing Rep. Ocasio-Cortez for a future leadership role. The Democratic Party must evolve to meet the challenges ahead, and that begins with empowering leaders who are willing to fight for the people.
Thank you for your service and attention to this matter.
